Welcome! Below you will find information on the admission process for the Master of Arts in English.
M.A.T. applicants, please see the Lynch School of Education admissions webpage.
Applicants to the B.A./M.A. program do not need to take the GRE.

Application Form
The Graduate School of the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences application form offers online document submission through our web-based application form. Applicants are responsible for collecting and submitting all department requirements by the designated deadline.
Statement of Purpose
A brief (1-2 pages) personal statement in which you describe your preparation, motivations, and goals for graduate study. We prefer that you address professional and intellectual interests rather than your personal ones.
Letters of Recommendation
Three letters of recommendation – from professors, preferably in literature. Recommendations from employers are usually not relevant.
Transcripts
Transcripts are required from all post-secondary education institutions attended.
Standardized Tests
The general GRE score is optional.
Writing Sample
A critical essay of less than 20 pages. We prefer that these be free-standing essays. If you include a portion of a senior thesis, please explain how it fits into the larger paper. Please do not send creative writing.
International Students
Official TOEFL/IELTS scores are accepted as proof of English language proficiency. Please visit the MCGS Admissions website for waiver policies.
