Saint Anthony was born Fernando Martins de Bulh玫es in 1195 in Lisbon, Portugal. He was born into a wealthy family and was raised in the church. He later joined the Augustinian canons and was ordained to the priesthood. Saint Anthony was inspired by Franciscan friars in Morocco and developed a desire to join the Franciscans and preach the Gospel to the Muslims. Upon joining the Franciscan friars, he adopted the name Anthony from the name of a chapel dedicated to Saint Anthony the Great. Saint Anthony, a gifted preacher proclaimed the Gospel through France and Italy. After becoming very ill, Saint Anthony asked to be taken back to Padua, where he died after receiving the last sacraments. He was later canonized and named a Doctor of the Church in 1946. Saint Anthony is venerated as the Patron Saint for lost articles. His feast day is celebrated on June 13.
