Saint Nicholas

Saint Nicholas of Myra聽also known as聽Nicholas of Bari, was an聽early Christian bishop of the聽ancient Greek city of聽Myra聽in聽Asia Minor (modern-day聽Demre, Turkey) during the time of the聽Roman Empire. He is revered by many Christians as a聽saint because of the many聽miracles聽attributed to his聽intercession, he is also known as聽Nicholas the Wonderworker.聽Saint Nicholas is the聽patron saint聽of sailors, merchants,聽archers, repentant thieves, children, brewers,聽pawnbrokers, and students in various cities and countries around Europe. His reputation evolved among the faithful, as was common for聽early Christian saints, and his legendary habit of secret gift-giving gave rise to the traditional model of聽Santa Claus聽(鈥淪aint Nick鈥) through聽Sinterklaas. His feast day is celebrated on December 6th.
