This summer, I am studying at Burren College of Art in Ballyvaughan, County Clare, Ireland. Due to its intricate formation during the ice age, the Burren is a uniquely diverse place ecologically, and one of the only places in the world where flowers from the mediterranean bloom alongside flowers from the arctic. These flowers, and the modern dwellings of the Burren, share their limestone bed with the remains of castles built as far back as the twelfth century. While I am here, I will research how the physical, ecological history of the landscape intersects with the human history and folklore of the Burren鈥檚 agrarian community.

I will be at Nanhua University this summer for 2 months as a TEEP Intern. TEEP stands for Taiwan Experience Education Program which connects students from all over the world to cultural and professional experiences in Taiwan! I will be working at the Department of Natural Biotechnology, within a research team that strives to promote a 鈥渓ivable urban life鈥� and has four main objectives regarding education, environment, industry, and the shared good, such as establishing a local education promotion model that provides education for young children and support for the elderly, as well as to create communities and towns where people can live comfortably to achieve the goal of environmental sustainability! Our key projects include international initiatives such as the Slow Movement and the Cittaslow Alliance. Nanhua University will thus be holding an international conference and Earth Market on June 23rd, 2024 which I will partake in as an English host. I believe that being able to play such a major role in an international conference as such will be a great opportunity for me to connect with other professionals in the field that are passionate about social impacts regarding food supply in local communities. In July, I will be traveling to many various local communities including Chiayi, Miaoli, and Taitung counties to explore the differences among their ingredients, cooking and storage methods. I will also be interviewing the farmers to explore the agricultural farming and marketing channels. Through this experience, I look forward to learning more about Taiwanese agriculture and food industries. Another project that I will be assisting is the Cittaslow Convention in Korea during mid-July. As a native Korean, I will be assisting as a translator and will be traveling with them for this international meeting. Overall, I believe that this TEEP internship opportunity at Nanhua University is the perfect answer to both my unique passions and career goals, and I am extremely excited to approach this new experience with the support of the Frontier Fellowship, and be able to share my journey with the Montserrat and BC community!

For my upcoming unpaid internship, I am excited to contribute to the impactful MAMI, Crianza en Red, and Criar Jugando programs. My responsibilities will focus on data collection, systematization, impact measurement, and educating mothers on the importance of lactating and its health benefits.

I will participate in workshops for adolescent parents in Criar Jugando, families with young children in Crianza en Red, and sessions in the MAMI program. Additionally, I will create content for social media to extend the programs' outreach.

The internship will proceed in two stages: initially, I will familiarize myself with the programs, assist in data collection, and complete necessary documentation. In the subsequent stage, I will analyze indicators, suggest improvements, and gather qualitative data through testimonials.

I am dedicated to contributing my skills and energy to support these important initiatives.I look forward to making a meaningful impact on community development and social well-being through this experience.

I will be working alongside Fundacion Ninos Sin Dolor (Children Without Pain Foundation). During my time with the internship, I will be working on a few projects such as improving patient experiences, developing educational medical materials and protocols, and engaging in management and administrative organization. These will be consistent of personalizing gifts to children prior to surgery, conducting interviews with family members to assess pre-entry conditions, and manage post-surgical surveys to collect data on pain management, and what improvements could be done.There is a toy warehouse in which I will help maintain. I will also be assisting in volunteer activities that are managed by the Foundation.

Over the summer, I interned at Municipalidad Vicente Lopez, a government agency dedicated to immigration aid, and allocating resources to those in the Buenos Aires area. I chose this internship because I wanted to learn more about cross cultural immersion while pursuing my interest in law and government work. This opportunity has granted me the chance to shadow one of the Vicente Lopez partners, Facundo Suarez, the Legal Undersecretary of the Municipality of Vicente Lopez, who has been a mentor and guide since my arrival in Buenos Aires. Under this internship I was granted the opportunity to shadow immigration and policy lawyers and learn more about creating legal policy, providing aid to incoming migrants, and learning the similarities and differences when it comes to the U.S. Trademarks and visas. I worked to gain a better understanding of what it means to be an immigration lawyer and learn more about the process behind law school from diverse perspectives. Getting the opportunity to shadow different lawyers in their practice not only gave me a first hand experience of what my life will look like if I pursue law school, but has also guided me in different directions of what kind of law I would like to study.
