Spotlight on You

Microsoft's corporate vice president, HR services,  as executive sponsor of the "Military at Microsoft" employee resource group. The post kicked off Military Appreciation Month earlier this year, and lends well to this week's theme of supporting veterans and military families. 
"Microsoft employs thousands of veterans and reserve service members in many countries around the world," Olin wrote in his post. "We strive to be world class in our policies and benefits that support military community employees... Beyond our company programs, our managers take special care to appreciate and leverage skills and experiences gained in military service, and support team members called to reserve duty. This commitment at an individual and team level gives me immense pride."

Earlier this fall, was at WillowTree Apps. Palmer joins WillowTree to support and expand its existing diversity, equity, and inclusion and social impact commitments. She will play a key role in these programs, as well as support WillowTree鈥檚 environmental, social, corporate governance, and ongoing efforts to drive diversity and equity in its workforce demographics. Palmer is also the board chair for BCCCC's .

Last month, , PwC manager, started a new position as CEO Action for Racial Equity Fellow at PwC. The CEOARE Fellowship brings together top talent and resources to advance public policies and corporate engagement strategies that will address systemic racism and social injustice while improving societal well-being. The Fellowship mobilizes the larger collective business community 鈥 across all industries and regions 鈥 to facilitate change at the local, state, and federal levels.

, vice president of customer inclusion at Fidelity Investments, on Substance Use Disorder (SUD) as an inclusion frontier. "You may be wondering, 'Wait鈥 that鈥檚 an inclusion thing?'鈥 wrote Pulsifer. "Both AUD and SUD are pervasive and widely misunderstood. Meanwhile, the solution of recovery has astonishing implications on leadership in the workplace."

To celebrate its 100-year anniversary, USAA launched a veteran entrepreneur pitch contest, 鈥,鈥 looking for the next generation of entrepreneurs who can carry the spirit of service-minded innovation forward into the next century. Up to 36 startups competed in regional pitch contests held throughout 2022, culminating in a finals event in San Antonio this November.

"[From Service to Startup] began as a tiny seed during a brainstorm session in mid-2021, as we were planning innovative ways to serve and celebrate the military community during USAA鈥檚 centennial year in 2022," explained , AVP, corporate responsibility at USAA. "What a blessing to see this effort grow throughout the course of this special 100th-anniversay year, with incredible collaboration from the nonprofit Bunker Labs and our corporate development and strategy-digital-brand teammates. [We're] excited about the finals event, fittingly held in coordination with Veterans Day."

In honor of Veterans Day, Delta is again supporting veterans, active service members, and their families by through the Delta SkyWish Program to Fisher House Foundation鈥檚 Hero Miles program and Luke's W鈥媔ngs for the month of November. Fisher House Foundation's Hero Miles program and Luke's Wings use donated miles to provide air travel to wounded, injured or ill service members and veterans as well as their families, connecting military members with their loved ones for support while they undergo treatment and recovery.

Target is furthering its commitment to supporting students at historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) by launching the . This new program will give second-year students meaningful work experience in Target business areas including stores, supply chain facilities, tech and merchandising. Each class of up to 100 Target Scholars will have the opportunity to work on projects across the business, develop important skills, and use tailored resources and support.

While Indigenous women and girls comprise only 4% of the total female population in Canada, they represent 24% of female homicide victims and are 12 times more likely to be murdered or go missing than any other women in Canada. Enter TELUS' , developed in partnership with Indigenous-led organizations and recently expanded to include Ontario. The program provides free smartphones and fully subsidized talk, text and data plans to Indigenous women, girls or gender diverse people. This free access is a critical lifeline to Indigenous-led services, wellness resources, and support networks.

The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (NGC) recently published its , covering the year 2021. In early 2022, NGC became the first company from Trinidad and Tobago to be registered as a member of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Community. The GRI Community provides members with access to learning and knowledge-sharing opportunities that help improve the quality of reporting.

With a strategic vision around streamlined data and an improved technical landscape, a group of Liberty Mutual employees came together to form a cross-functional team that aligned with the Autism Society of America鈥檚 full suite of digital technologies. Using their diverse technical skillset, over a five-month period, the working team assessed the organization鈥檚 technical environment and created an architectural blueprint for future-state. The goal was to create a systems recommendation that encompasses all anticipated functionality for their national office and affiliates that utilize their systems. 

T. Rowe Price recently released its 鈥鈥 report. The report is a culmination of years of the T. Rowe Price Foundation鈥檚 collaboration and research with dozens of community partners throughout the city of Baltimore. The company and its partners conducted economic analysis, fundraising audits, and other surveys to understand how nonprofits were making change and how they hoped to bolster their change-making efforts. 

Representatives from several BCCCC member companies, including KPMG, USAA, and Wells Fargo, will speak at the , taking place in Virginia this Veterans Day weekend.
