The Program for Global Public Health and the Common Good is an undergraduate program of education, service and research.聽 The Program is聽rooted in the 艾可直播 College liberal arts curriculum,聽grounded in science, and committed to social justice. We are committed to creation of a healthier and more equitable society and to care for the earth 鈥� our Common Home. We offer a 6-course (18-credit) undergraduate minor in Global Public Health and a new, 12-course (36-credit) major.

As we begin the new academic year, it is our great pleasure to welcome back the students who are already in our major and minor in Global Public Health and the Common Good and to extend a very warm welcome to the new students who will be joining our program for the first time. We hope that each of you has had an enjoyable and restful summer.聽
We are delighted to announce that we will be rolling out two new public health degree programs this fall. First, we have entered into an agreement with Tufts University to create an Accelerated Pathway to a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree that will allow BC students to earn up to 12 of the 42 credits they will need for a Tufts MPH while they still working toward their bachelor鈥檚 degree at 艾可直播 College. Students who enroll in this new program may be able to complete their MPH in as little as one year, thus saving considerable time and tuition. If you are interested, please contact us in Higgins 648 or at publichealth@bc.edu before the Add/Drop date to discuss details and to be sure that you are enrolled in the qualifying courses.
With the enthusiastic support of the University Provost and the Dean of the Connell School of Nursing, we will now for the first time be offering a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Global Public Health and the Common Good. This new degree program will complement the BA degree that we offer already. Students in our major who are interested in pursuing a BS in Global Public Health will take all 12 of the public health courses that are required for the BA plus at least five additional 3-credit science-related courses. These can include courses in both quantitative science (Computer Science, Mathematics, and Economics) and/or laboratory science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth & Environmental Sciences, and Neuroscience).
It is our great pleasure to welcome our newest 艾可直播member into the program for Global Public Health and the Common Good, Professor Katelyn Sileo. Professor Sileo is an epidemiologist who obtained her PhD in Global Public Health from the University of California at San Diego. For the past five years, she has been a member of the 艾可直播of the University of Texas at San Antonio. Professor Sileo is a gifted teacher, and she conducts research in Uganda where she develops and implements strategies to improve health outcomes in patients infected with HIV. Please join us in welcoming Professor Sileo to 艾可直播 College.
Our graduates from the program for Global Public Health and the Common Good continue to do great things. In the past year, we have seen them go on to medical school, post-graduate nursing education, dental school, schools of veterinary medicine, and post-graduate studies in public health and health policy. We have seen them enter the Peace Corps, the Jesuit Volunteer Corps and embark on careers in nursing, public health and environmental science. We have seen an amazing number of these talented young women and men win awards, scholarships and fellowships to support them on their life鈥檚 journey. We are excited to welcome a group of our public health graduates back this October to speak with our students and will send more information on this event shortly.
Lastly, I would like to invite all of our students and 艾可直播to join us on the afternoon of September 16th from 3:00-4:00 PM for a Fall Welcome Gathering on the 245 Beacon St 2nd floor patio, located on north facing side of 245 Beacon St building (facing the St. Ignatius statue). This will give us all an opportunity to spend time with one another as we begin the semester. Hope to see you there!
