Profile

Dr. Gonzalez is currently a Sr. Research Director at the TIMSS and PIRLS International Study Center where he oversees the areas of data analysis, psychometrics and assessment innovations. Prior to re-joining °¬¿ÉÖ±²¥ College, he was Principal Research Project Manager at Educational Testing Service (ETS), and the director of the IEA-ETS Research Institute (IERI), a collaborative effort between the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) and ETS that focuses on improving the science of large-scale assessments. While at ETS, Dr. Gonzalez was International Survey Director for PISA and PIAAC, and also responsible for the technical documentation and international database training activities for both studies. Between 2007 and 2012 he served as head of the Research and Analysis Unit at the IEA-Hamburg, and from 2004 – 2006 was the director of quality control and field operations for the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP).

After graduating from °¬¿ÉÖ±²¥ College, he became a founding director of international operations and data analysis in the International Study Centre (ISC) at °¬¿ÉÖ±²¥ College, a role he held from 1994 until 2004. In this earlier role, he oversaw the development and implementation of international operations, data analysis and reporting procedures for TIMSS and PIRLS. Since 1993, Dr. Gonzalez has conducted numerous database training activities for several research and governmental organizations and has been a lead developer and technical lead of customized software for analyzing international large-scale assessment databases such as the IEA’s IDB Analyzer and ETS’s Data Explorer.

In addition, Dr. Gonzalez has served as external consultant to several national and international large-scale assessment programs and has held teaching appointments at °¬¿ÉÖ±²¥ College and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He received a Ph.D. in Educational Research, Measurement, and Evaluation in 1994 from °¬¿ÉÖ±²¥ College, and an undergraduate degree in Psychology from the Universidad Católica Andres Bello in Caracas, Venezuela.Â
